www.gnosticchristianity.com/
they claim to be the hidden teachings of jesus, that he taught in private. ive looked briefly at the site and its content seems pretty consistent with most principles of zen buddhism as well, which is a good sign as far as im concerned. has anyone else grooved on this topic before?
also, I encourage everyone to read the Nag Hammadi codecs, which are an amazing gnostic discovery from egypt in the 1900s, and date back to the first century AD,

Re: gnostic christianity
Thu, December 16, 2004 - 2:18 AMGnosticism is the most polluting heresy to ever infect the Christian church. Among other things, it birthed the idea that the material is evil, only the spirit is divine, leading to hatred of our bodies, and the apostle Paul's obsession with the supposed superiority of celibacy. It also directly appeals to human pride - that my spiritual advancement comes through my attaining this special knowledge - when we come to God only through the Cross, the grace of God expressed through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. -

Re: gnostic christianity
Thu, December 16, 2004 - 5:30 PMOn a more serious note, Im note sure where you got the idea that gnosticism considers the material world evil. That is not the gnosticism that I am familiar with. Of course, there will always be people who wish to equate sex with guilt, but those people are found in every religion and denomination.
The gnosticism that I know (ala Carl Jung and Stephen Hoeller) is more similar to zen buddhism, and advances an idea that we can attain relief from suffering in this life through practices (meditation/prayer) that bring us closer to Christ.
